“Choices” was a very fast turnaround :30 spot, equating to roughly 1 month of work between two writers and two animators/designers, all over a holiday period! Thankfully, in the end, everyone was very happy with what we were able to accomplish, and although the spot hasn’t aired yet (and who knows, may never!) I’ve removed all branding to share what we were able to accomplish in such a condensed timeframe.
Initially proposed as a hand-drawn piece, given the time constraints I came up with some very simple puppet rigs using After Effects that were able to convey the motion we needed while still giving a perfectly imperfect hand-drawn feel. To expedite background painting, each shot was initially framed and blocked out in 3D and then drawn and painted over in Photoshop. Overall, I’m very happy with the result, and I hope you enjoy viewing it!
